Reading
Room 203
I want to welcome your child to my classroom. I am looking forward to getting to know him or her. I have high expectations for all students this year, and I hope that you will support me in my endeavor to push our kids to be and do their very best. The Reading curriculum is rigorous and demanding, and students will have to apply themselves. As the world becomes increasingly more complicated and advanced, we have to expect more out of our children if we want them to be successful and competitive. There will be many things incorporated into the curriculum that is superior to what we might have learned in middle school. The technology is leading the forefront and we will do our best to advance your child in all areas possible.
Student Expectations
In-Class Activities and Projects
There will be periodic projects and in-class activities that the students will be expected to complete. Some examples of projects might include: book shares, power point presentations, completed pieces of writing, or media projects.
Grading Policy
Comanche ISD sets a grading standard for us. This policy is outlines in more details of the student handbook.
***Late Work Policy***
Students are required to turn in all assignments on time. Late assignments, which are completed in a timely manner, will be graded with points deducted. After three days all late work will result in a zero for that assignment unless the student has discussed the situation with me and other arrangements have been decided.
Student Absences
Make –up work is the responsibility of the student. Students should see me about their make-up work on the day that they return to school, or before they are absent if possible. This includes work for absences due to extracurricular activities.
Mrs. Jones’s Conference period

This will mean that they will be reading some type of material on their reading level. They will individually answer questions about the material which will be considered a quiz grade each six weeks. This will broaden the students reading opportunities through a variety of materials.
- Students will be expected to learn new vocabulary, spelling words, prefixes, suffixes, and root words and will be tested over a selected number of words. Students will be expected to complete work in a journal and planner each day.
- Students will participate and actively engage in discussions about literature.
- Students will be expected to produce finished pieces of writing.
- Students will participate in various projects that involve media/technology, as well as other hands-on projects that must be completed outside of class.
